Posted in Uncategorized on November 12, 2008 by bamewrite

Finally it’s near the end of fall quarter. I am eager to head back home to Kansas with my dog. I am wondering on what my two weeks break turn out. I hope that it’ll be good. It looks like I’ll probably be staying home alot due to no transportation.

Right now, I am looking forward to complete all of my exams. I only have one left to go, which would be on Friday. It felts forever, but I know time will get there. And that I’ll be thrilled to get things ready and head back home.

By the way, this is Katie Bame typing this blog.

Hope you’ll have a nice two weeks break.

Why is search advertising more efficient than traditional forms of advertising in print and broadcast?

Search advertising is more easier than advertising in print and broadcast. Search advertising can be found on any area on the website and whenever you click on the ads, the company would earn each clicks the customer enters. It’s the way of earning profit for their business by having a personalize advertisement. It can be quite annoying when you have bunch of spam or advertisement on the front of your browser.

But it can be easier for the company to broadcast on a bulletin instead of online. It’s easier for the people to see what’s around the area. For instance, when you drive on the interstate, you would see the advertising on the hotels, or mcdonald’s. It’s their way of getting people to go there instead of put them online. But it just cost so much money and have so much expectation in printing. For instance, they would have to make sure the resolution is higher enough to put it up in public. While having them advertising online is much cheaper, and easier. Since the general resolution of expectation is 72.

But I often wonder on which one makes more money? I would assume having print broadcast advertisement makes more money than having them on the website. Because it would make people think it’s junk.

Print on Demand and Amazon Kindle

Print on demand (POD), sometimes called publish on demand, is a printing technology and business process in which new copies of a book (or other document) are not printed until an order has been received.” found from wikipiedia. It is something like the lulu website, where you can order your personalize book and have it printed. It gives you variety kind of size, binding, and such and give you the quality of expectation. So that you could get it quickly, you can even pick it up. Just like what we did for our personalize book. We had to create a book on one topic and have it published by www.lulu.com it gives us the demand of needs on getting the book published.

Amazon Kindle from wikipedia defines “Amazon Kindle is an e-book reader—an embedded system for reading electronic books (e-books)—launched in the United States by prominent online bookseller Amazon.com in November 2007.” I guess it’s more easier for the people who’s flying or on a business trip read e-book online.

The comparison between Amazon Kindle and Print on Demand gives you a different view. Amazon Kindle just basically save you the money on ordering some certain of books and allows you to read them online. Print on Demand just use machine to create a book in variety of quality.

Amazon Kindle would make things much easier and a lot cheaper than Print on Demand.

Search Advertising

It is a powerful tool on the internet where you could just type anything in the search box. Anything will come up in any kind of result. It is kind of creepy where you can type your name and you would see some kind of advertising post.

I just personally think it’s such a waste, where you do not need so much junk on a webpage. But this is how the advertising work.

But I often wonder on the result if we do not have any kind of advertising. The world may be boring.

It is just to get people to become less interested and less motivated.

Media Crossover

The question for this blog 4 is: What are the challenges and opportunities for print publications like magazine and newspapers when they try to cross over to the internet?

The challenges for the print publication will be a bit difficult posting on the internet. It is like we would not be able to go to the store and purchase a newspaper that is decent organized or has ads that we could look through.

The concern that may cause the people is reading online and keeping up to date with the news. Most of the people usually go over CNN.com or their local news, instead of the newspaper website. It requires password and would everyone remember their password, or some of them requires to pay to be able to read them.

But at the same time, it’ll be much easier for the newspaper and magazine to be e-book, instead of printed out.

We just would realize that there would be nothing left in the store or at the gas stations, because it will all be electronically. It would hurt the newspaper’s profit. And I began to wonder if the crossover of this is that it would cost us some money to be able to read them online?

Also, it would be a bit different for us people, especially the teenagers when they like to read the cosmopolitian and seventeen. Some of the magazines includes posters, and if they do not publish it like it is now, would the teenagers print them off the internet, even the resolution is poor?

There’s some crossover that we all will face. PRofit to the business for posting them online?

I have to look through Democrat and Chronicle newspaper and see what the audience was about. I personally do not read the newspaper here, I personally read my locals one. There’s the content that I do not like, it seem too bold not like my local ones.

I got Democrat and Chronicle newspaper this past Sunday and did not get a chance to look through them until now.

The first thing I look at is the front page, it was about Novel ideas target literacy gender gap. There was approximately 5×7 photo of a little boy who was listening to the instruction on writing a personal narrative. Also there is a photo right below, it looked like they were stretching their arms out, but really they were just doing a body gesture of a question mark.

On the front cover, it shows the audience on what will be in the newspaper. For instance, it shows that there’s an page on western swing on p. 4A, In Albany p. 1B, Voice of the Voter p. 1B, and Speaking out on p. 27A.

And it emphasize the audience that there’s a voter guide.

I flipped through the first section of the newspaper and looked at the back side. It had a whole page advertising Price Rite with the things they were advertising. They are trying to get people to buy their products.

I continued looking through the newspaper and did not really see much except furniture ads and columns. Until I went onto to the Voter Guide. It has a big photos of the two candidates, it included their goal and how they want to convince the voter. It makes the voter think on who to vote. Through that guide section, it explains about who they are, their words and stuff.

There’s so many ads on the cars and furniture. I bet that they cost so much money to post a simple ads and began to wonder if there’s enough audience going for their products.

I compared the audience on TV week from my local and here’s. I noticed that the TV week ads is so much smaller than mine. I do not like the size of it, it becomes a bit harder to read especially the fonts being small. I guess it did not really matter, but it makes me wonder on how the elder people feel when they have to wear a bigger glasses to be able to read that small fonts. It looked so busy on each pages. UGH

I am looking through the store ads, the first thing that grabbed my attention is Bed Bath and Beyond. I like the way they set up the front cover. It shows 4 picture with  adjectives (yumm… Yikes…, yumm….., and yum..) It is just so simple and elegant, it is nothing like Best Buy, when they have to add the Guitar Hero. and why do they always have to put tv on most of the ads. I know they are trying to get people to buy them, but they oughta try to be more diversity, for instance do like Black Friday’s ads. Where they would include as much as they can, not just focusing on TV and console system. It is getting so bored for me.

I also noticed that they finally included Toys R US Big Book. I like they way they set it up by including in the ad once in a while. Not like Best Buy, Circuit City, Kohl’s, when they have to be in the newspaper on every sundays. I guess Toys R US are trying to get the audience to buy their big sale especially for Christmas. Christmas is right on the corner, I think they’re trying to beat the competition.

Finally at last, there’s always everybody’s favorite part of sunday’s newspaper. THE COMICS. It is always entertaining reading them, especially in colors. I do not read the comics on weekdays, since it’s easy to overlook them especially in grayscale mode.

I am wondering on how the people would survive without having newspaper around. I just personally think it would be much easier if it’s published online instead of wasting so much trees and inks. There’s so many people owning pc and newspaper can cost them a bit of money. While reading them online is priceless.

Creative

Posted in Uncategorized on October 14, 2008 by bamewrite

After reading the chapter 7 and I looked at the six vectors. I feel that the word “Creative” would fit in well. Because the word “creative” means anything. It indicate that you can express your own thoughts through writing, poetry, photographies, and more.

It exercise your own mind and make you exercise your brain on things that you wanted to do.

You basically have creativity through many many ways. You just may not realize on how much creativity you have or used. Because it can come in the classroom, conversation style, or the way you dress.

The word, “Creative” can be part of the vector in my opinion.

Content

Posted in Uncategorized on October 14, 2008 by bamewrite

Content is the only way that the media can use to attract everyone’s attention. How do the media attract everyone attention, they use magazine, photos, videos, and such. Without them, how would we know the daily events? If we don’t, we would not know any events.

So having the content helps us express our thoughts or explain about the events that happened in the photos and videos.

So whenever the media use any of the contents, they surely would make so much money by getting everyone’s attention.

New Media Perspective’s Project

This is going to be an interesting quarter with the New Media Perspective course. The reason why I mentioned that it’ll be an interesting quarter, is because we will produce our own album/book about one image that we choose.

I have chosen to create an album about my kiddo, Rusty. I am excited to see the outcome of the album at the end of this quarter.

I am in the processing in starting the album. So I’ll keep you up to date.

Class Survey Summary

Posted in Uncategorized on September 24, 2008 by bamewrite

This survey was taken on September 3, 2008 during the first day of class. We had total of 63 students in this class. The survey had several questions that we had to answer. It was a pretty easy survey that we had to fill out. It is more of getting to know each other.

From looking at this graph for the student’s interests. It shows that they are not much different. It shows that they are both similar, except for newspaper and HDTV. Both are low, while the rest are pretty much close.

For the presidential election, I have compared on both male and female students. I have noticed that both of them have approximately equal amount of 60 vs. 40 for election result.

Both of them voted 40-60 for Obama vs. McCain. The survey shows that the female has 11 same election results while the male shows 8 same election results.

While the rest of the class has variety of result score, except few of them did not calculate to 100% result. For instance, someone put down 46-30, that’s not 100, that’s 76.

It shows me that it’s interesting finding out their result score. Most outscored that they think Obama will win against McCain. I am one of these voters, even though I am not registered voter. But I hope that McCain will win the election.
